... This is now: 2001 to 2011 The essence of our design is modular simplicity with a high degree of flexibility. Several tools direct readers through a package, through a page and through the paper — we use these liberally and consistently. Story category, tone and news value are signaled by headline weight and type style. Consistently applying these tools trains readers to expect certain content depending on the choice. We avoid gratuitous ornamentation, relying instead on sharp headlines, ample decking, a combination of vertical and horizontal movement and well-chosen photographs with bold play and strong crops.
